Hyderabad: The Telangana government has approved the construction of a 1,048 metre cable bridge across Durgam Cheruvu in Madhapur at a cost of Rs.184 crore. Once in place, the bridge will ease the traffic congestion on the busy Madhapur road and reduce the distance from Madhapur and Jubilee Hills to Gachibowli by two kilometres.

Hyderabad could soon have its own cable stayed bridge with powerful cables strung over massive pylons to support a bridge deck over Durgam Cheruvu in Madhapur. Besides easing the traffic the bridge would add to the iconic image of the city, a modern landmark in an already bustling metropolis.

The project has been awarded to Larsen and Toubro, the company that is building the Hyderabad Metro Rail and also deploying the CCTV surveillance for Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The project is part of the Strategic Road Development programme, a pet project of the state government.

Sanctioned under Engineering Procurement and Construction, the estimated cost of the project is Rs.184 crore and is to be shared equally by the GHMC and Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation.

The bridge will have approach roads from Madhapur and Jubilee Hills and footpaths on both sides.
