Hyderabad: Are the recalibrated ATMs working fine? Maybe not. Some ATMs in Hyderabad are still not able to deliver the new Rs2000 and Rs500 while the recalibrated ones are delivering wrong notes - but to the delight of the customers, they are popping out Rs500 notes when customers pressed buttons for Rs100 notes.

Over a dozen customers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Saturday were lucky to get Rs500 notes instead of Rs100. The limit of withdrawal from ATM being Rs2,500 at a time, those who arrived at the airport from various places were trying to withdraw the cash at the ATM at the arrival gate. The machine delivered the money in the combination of one Rs2,000 note and five Rs500 notes, totalling Rs4,500.

As the error was to their advantage, no customer complained about this. But after a while, the airport authorities came to know about this and stopped the ATMs.

Meanwhile, the cash-strapped citizens of Telangana and the state capital will have to wait few more days to get the new Rs500 notes from ATMs. Banks will load Rs500 notes next week, which will go a long way in cutting ATM queues. And, more money will be available through ATMs than across bank counters.

"We will dispense more money through ATMs. The flow of money has already risen and it will increase further. More queues are seen outside ATMs attached to bank branches, these days," says a bank official.

Telangana is likely to get a fresh cash boost on Monday. This week, RBI remitted Rs 2000 crore to the state.
