New Delhi: The proposed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Mangalagiri would be ready by scheduled September 2020 deadline. So far, 70 percent work relating to outpatient department block and residential complex were finished, said Minister of State for Health Ashwini Kumar Chaubey.

Chaubey was responding to a question posed by YSRCP MP V Vijayasai Reddy in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. He said 26 percent of the work was finished with regard to the construction of hospital and academic complex.

The Centre approved setting up of AIIMS in Mangalagiri on October 7, 2015. It has so far sanctioned Rs 1,618 crore for the purpose, of which Rs 385.54 crore was already released for the construction. Outpatient department services have already started in March 2019. Since the construction work is going on as per prescribed time scales, there will be no room for cost escalation, he added.
