Monsoon To Advance, Rains In Andhra Earlier Than Expected

Visakhapatnam: Pre-monsoon showers with light to moderate rains were witnessed in several parts of East Godavari, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam districts on Saturday evening. As the onset of monsoon has entered Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the conditions are in favour and rains are expected to hit Andhra Pradesh in the next few days.

As per the IMD, the southwest monsoon is likely to further advance to South Coastal AP by June 11 and to North Coastal AP by June 15. The monsoon, delayed by eight days in the state this year, is expected to be normal in all the areas with 97 percent from June to September.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema will witness normal rains. Thunderstorm activity and rains, which are the pre-monsoon showers will hit several parts of the state during the movement of southwest monsoon belt from south to north.

Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and East Godavari districts are likely to have heavy rains while thunderstorm activity is expected in South Coastal AP in the next 24 hours.
