Chandrababu Squanders Public Money For Davos Trip

World Economic Forum meeting in Switzerland’s Davos - Sakshi Post

Amaravati: Startling facts about Andhra Pradesh former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's Davos trip expenditure were revealed in the bills submitted by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) to the State government.

In a letter written to the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB), the CII requested the APEDB to pay the bills incurred for Chandrababu's trip to the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Switzerland's Davos held in January 2019. The CII Bill had asked the APEDB to pay an amount of Rs 14.41 crore estimated cost, for which 18 per cent GST and other tariffs were added. The total amount came up to a whopping amount of Rs 17 crore.

Looking at the breakup of the expenditure, the lounge rental itself was Rs 2.48 crore. For furnishing and equipping the lounge with sofas and computers, the amount was Rs 2.51 crore apart from the banners, standees etc. Strangely, the LED screen was billed at Rs 1.45 crore. For the four-day trip, an amount of Rs 1.05 crore was incurred for the AP delegation's meals.

These are just the costs of setting up a lounge in Davos. In addition, Chandrababu added chartered special flights and booked swanky hotels for his entourage which included his son and former IT minister Nara Lokesh , former finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, senior State officials and his security officers.

Ever since he became chief minister, Chandrababu had regularly attended the WEF meets in Davos, under the pretext of garnering foreign investments for Andhra Pradesh, projecting it as the Sunrise State. The entire expenditure of the trip was to be borne by the State government.

Last year, the State delegation comprised 12 members headed by the Chandrababu and the outcome anticipated from that visit was mentioned as negotiations. Earlier the CII had submitted a bill of Rs 9.86 crore for the 2018 meetings that was paid out of the State treasury.

Chandrababu made tall claims that his talent was recognised by many countries across the world, which is why he was called regularly to the WEF meetings. He would often say that no other chief minister in the country was called for these meetings.

But there was no evidence to prove that Chandrababu was ever called to the WEF conference by virtue of his position as chief minister. But, in fact, he had bought tickets worth crores like any other delegation member. The special meetings which were held in Davos was conducted by the CII and the bills submitted by the CII to the government and APEDB are evidence to this.
