Finance Commission Has Nothing To Do With AP Special Status: Y S Jagan

15th Finance Commission  Chairman Nandakishore Singh - Sakshi Post

Vijayawada: The fact that the Finance Commission has nothing to do with the Special Category Status (SCS) to be accorded to the state of Andhra Pradesh and that the SCS issue does not fall under the purview of the Finance Commission has been time and again reiterated by the leader of the Opposition and Chief of the YSR Congress Party, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

An executive order signed by the Prime Minister is what is needed for the status to be accorded to the state, is what YS Jagan has been saying repeatedly for the past four years.

This view found resonance in the statement of the Chairman of the 15th Finance Commission Nandakishore Singh, who was in the state capital, Amaravati, for a meeting with AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. He clarified that the Finance Commission had nothing to do with the Special Category Status (SCS).

Addressing the press today, Nandakishore Singh said that the Centre was trying to dodge the issue of SCS on the pretext of the Finance Commission but the Special Category Status (SCS) doesn’t form part of the framework of the Finance Commission.

The Chairman also gave out some interesting facts about the way the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, was passed. When the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, was passed he was present in the Rajya Sabha and that the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also clapped his hands in agreement for the Bill to be passed. In the past, when states were reorganised an implementation mechanism was set up to look into the issues but the state of AP has no such institutional mechanism or nodal entity to look into AP affairs and this is a serious omission on the part of the State and Centre, he pointed out.
