Widow Sold Off For Rs 1.8 Lakh By Her In-Laws

Boadh (Adilabad): In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly sold off to a gang in Gujarat, by her in-laws. The incident came to light when her parents staged a protest before the house of their daughter's in-laws at Kistapur village in Neradigonda mandal in Adilabad district.
According to the police, victim identified as Devi (name changed) was married to one Ramesh of Kistapur village three years ago. The couple have a daughter and a son. Devi’s husband had allegedly committed suicide earlier this year due to some problems. Since then, Devi has been living with her in-laws by working as an attender in a government school in Kistapur village.
Meanwhile, her brother-in-law Chouhan Arjun has started harassing her sexually. A week ago, Arjun struck a deal with some brothel company and sold her off for Rs 1.8 lakh along with other woman — Rekha and Sarada both from Ichoda mandal in the district.
Back home at Sonala village of Boadh mandal, parents got panicked after Devi’s in-laws maintaining silence over their daughter. When they questioned after coming to Kistapur, they found that their daughter was sold to someone in Gujarat. Immediately, they approached police and lodged a complaint. The police registered a case against the in-laws and launched investigation.
The police are also suspecting that Arjun might have sold the victim only to take control of the inherited property.
