Blaze-hit Chennai Silks Building To Be Razed To Ground

Chennai: A day after fire swept through the seven-storeyed building that houses the Chennai Silks at Usman Road in Chennai city, civic officials have decided to pull down the building as it is unsafe for living.

Four floors of the building collapsed on Thursday morning prompting the officials to raze down the building with the assistance of Chennai Metro Rail Limited.

The officials are taking every care to ensure the neighbouring buildings are not affected. The officials are considering the advices of engineers and experts from the Public Works Department (PWD).

The Chennai police have registered a case of accidental fire and launched investigation with the help of forensic experts to know the exact cause of fire.

On Wednesday, a major fire in Chennai Silks reduced everything to ashes. The fire tenders had to battle the blaze for over 32 hours. On Thursday morning too, the firemen are trying to douse the flames with the help of skylifts. The entire area has been cordoned off.

Smoke continues to billowing out of the building on Thursday morning.
