ACB Traps R&B Chief Engineer, Unearths Over Rs 100 Crore

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested Chief engineer of Roads and Buidings (Andhra Pradesh) M Gangadharam for possession of properties in excess of his known sources of income.

The ACB recovered over Rs 100 crore of property in cash, gold, real estate and is yet to complete accounting for the bank lockers. The Bureau conducted simultaneous raids at his offices and residences in Hyderabad and Bengaluru besides raiding the houses of his friends and relatives.

Twenty special teams were formed by the ACB for the simultaneous raids. Officials state that as per registration price the seized properies are worth Rs 8.5 crore but in the open market they are valued at over Rs 100 crore. Speaking to media, ACB Director General RP Thakur said the Bureau identified real estate owned by Gangadharam in Vijayawada, Kadapa, Chittoor, Vizag and Nellore districts. Meanwhile, his bank lockers will be examined on Monday, the ACB officer said.

Gangadharam has been working as R&B chief engineer at Vijayawada since 2016. He was arrested from his residence at Plot No. 14, Vivekananda Nagar Colony of Kukatpally area in Hyderabad. He will be shifted to Vizag and presented at the ACB court on Monday. The ACB officials also arrested his associate Kishore and his wife during the raids.
