New Delhi: At least one person was killed and five others were injured on Tuesday in a blast outside a firecracker godown located in Naya Bazar near Chandni Chowk market in north Delhi. Police said the explosion occurred in Naya Bazar at around 10.40 am and the victim has not been identified yet. Window panes of the surrounding buildings were damaged due to the impact of the blast.

Police officials said investigation going on as the cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained. However, media reports cite several reasons on explosion.

According to NDTV, the likely cause of the explosion is reportedly a cylinder blast in the wholesale market in Delhi. However, CNN-News18 reported that the explosion was caused due to some explosive material a man was carrying in a sack. The person carrying the firecrackers was reportedly killed in the incident. Window panes of the surrounding buildings were damaged due to the impact of the blast.

Forensic teams and officers from the Special Cell have commenced their investigation by collecting collecting samples.

The location is in the bustling commercial area with and narrow lanes and closely packed structures. One TV channel carried a story saying that some fire crackers and explosive material were also found at the spot.
