Use Campus For Studies, Not Strikes: Kerala Court

No strikes or protests inside the college, and all those who violate it can be expelled - Kerala High Court. - Sakshi Post

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday observed that educational institutions were meant for studies only and campuses should be free of strikes and protests, adding that erring students can be expelled.

"Whatever be the reason, from now on, no strikes or protests inside the college, and all those who violate it can be expelled. If there are any student issues that need to be addressed, they can approach various forums at the college and even the judiciary," a bench of Chief Justice Navaniti Prasad Singh said in an interim order. The court was hearing a petition filed by M.E.S. Ponnani College at Ponnani in Malappuram district in the wake of ongoing protests by students on the campus.

"There should be no such protests. If it happens, it should be stopped and authorities can seek police help. Studies and protests cannot go together. Those seeking a political career through student politics should discontinue their studies and engage in politics," the court said. The case was posted for hearing on Monday.
