Chennai: The power-tussle in Tamil Nadu seems getting fiercer by the day even after the main contestant Sasikala was sent to jail on Wednesday.

Newly-elected AIADMK Legislature Party Leader Palanisamy on Wednesday met Tamil Nadu Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao to urge him to invite to form the government.

After Sasikala disappeared from TN political scene in the afternoon, Palanisamy stepped up his efforts to form the government and met the Governor along with party senior MLAs Sengottiyan and Jayakumar. He submitted a letter to the Governor claiming that he enjoys the support of 124 MLAs and can prove his strength on the floor of the House after forming the government. However, there were only 90 MLAs in Golden Bay Resorts when the police made an inquiry when they were camped there.

Governor took note of the claim of Palanisamy and also spoke to the MLAs who accompanied their LP leader.

Palanisamy later told reporters that they submitted the letter once again and hoped that he will be invited to form the government.

Minutes after the meet, Vidyasagar also allowed the caretaker Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam who also claimed sufficient support to form government. He also brought to the notice of the Governor the various charges pending against Palanisamy and urged him not to invite him for formation of government. He assured the Governor that he will prove majority on the floor of the House as many MLAs are ready to support him in the event of forming government.

Meanwhile, AIADMK leader in the Lok Sabha Thambidurai had a meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu in Delhi. Thambidurai is reported to have been asked by the PM and Naidu to bring about coordination among the party MLAs and see to it that a stable government is formed in the state.
