Amaravati: Tension prevailed at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's Camp office here in Amarvati on Thursday morning when a group of people, who lost their houses due to road widening, staged a dharna demanding that the state government should pay compensation with immediate effect.

One of the agitators, who brought petrol along with him, tried to immolate himself. An alert police man who was deployed at the outpost, stopped the man from taking the extreme step.

The AP government had taken up widening of Ibrahimpatnam-Mylavaram road three years ago. The oustees who were assured compensation by the government, have been waiting for it for the past three years.

Whenever the victims tried to meet AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the State Secretariat over the matter, the officials would send them back citing various reasons. The victims had also met Minister Devineni Uma Maheshwara Rao several times urging the Minister to hasten the process of releasing the amount. But the efforts had no impact on the government. The victims told media persons that they
would stage a sit-in before the Chief Minister's residence until he comes out and intervenes to resolve the issue.
