Tennis Top 2 To Face-Off In Historic Final To Claim Number One Position

London: For the first time, the battle for the top spot in international tennis rankings will be fought in a final match of the season as Andy Murray faces off with Novak Djokovic in the ATP World Tour final in London on Sunday.

While the Brit Andy Murray is coming out of a hard fought gripping semi-final where he beat Milos Raonic 5-7 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (11-9) in three hours and 38 minutes, Djokovic on the other hand swept past his opponent Kei Nishikori 6-1 6-1.

The Murray-Djokovoc face-offs

The Sunday final at the O2 Arena would be the 35th meeting between the two top ranked players. Djokovic leads the head-to-head 24-10 and has won 13 of their last 15 matches, including victories in the finals of the Australian Open, Madrid Open and French Open this year.

Coming on a 23-match winning streak, Murray displaced Djokovic as the number one position earlier this month. Renowned for his resilience, Murray, who had a gruelling semi-final match that lasted three hours longer that Djokovic, will have to bring his entire fitness and mental strength to the Sunday’s final.

Djokovic has won the last four titles he played in London and will overtake Murray with another win.

Djokovic won 13 of their last 15 encounters

Speaking to the press, the Serb said he was really priviliged to be part of history on Sunday.

Promising to bring his best to the Sunday final, the Scott expressed hope that it would be enough.
