Congress BC Leader R Krishnaiah Gets Miryalguda Assembly Ticket

Miryalaguda Congress Candidate R Krishnaiah - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: With the last date for nominations for the Telangana Assembly Elections ending today, the Congress party announced another list comprising the names of six candidates late on Sunday night.

Telangana Congress List  dtd. 18 November 2018

The surprise addition was that of Backward Classes leader, R. Krishnaiah whose name figured in the No 6 column of the list as a contender for the Miryalaguda Assembly constituency.

Rumours were rife that senior Congress leader and K. Jana Reddy was in Delhi for quite a long time as he was trying hard for the seat to be allotted to his son Raghuveer Reddy. But the Congress high command nominated Krishnaiah keeping the BC voters segment of the state in mind. This came as a surprise for the Telangana Congress leaders and even the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders as Krishnaiah was a former legislator from the LB Nagar Assembly constituency which he won through the TDP ticket in 2014.

It may be noted that Backward Classes make up about 53% of Telangana’s population and an important vote bank. The BC leaders were planning for a state-wide bandh to protest on 17 November against political parties for not giving enough seats to Backward Class leaders and R Krishnaiah had also met chief electoral officer, Rajat Kumar for a better representation of the BC community.

Though he has not been given enough importance in the last five years, this could be seen as a last move to stay in politics. By repeatedly raking up the Backward Class issue seems to have finally paid off as he made it in the last list of Congress candidates.
