Kakinada: Following controversial remarks made by Prof Kancha Illaiah on Arya Vysya community, Swami Paripurnananda of Sri Peetham on Wednesday slammed the author and backed the Vysya community.

He said Vysyas have been contributing to the society from times immemorial by giving 10 per cent of their income to the poor.

Speaking to media persons, Paripurnananda Swamy found fault with Kancha Illaiah's take on social structure of Vysya community. "It is unfortunate that Illaiah called Vysyas 'social smugglers'," he said.

Stating that Illaiah never raised a voice over the exploitation by the East Indian company and multi-national companies, Paripurnananda said that the Dalit thinker had gone mad after he had converted himself into ''other faith.''

With a name that sounds like Dalit, Illaiah had duped the Dalit community. Ilaiah will have to face severe consequences if he raises sensitive issues like caste and religion. The seer said that Illaiah is trying to attack the forces of national integration by raising such issues.
