Ground Beneath Spits Fire, Youth Dies Due To Burns

Mysuru: The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board appointed a technical advisory committee after two teenagers sustained chemical burn injuries as fumes emanated from the soil. One of the teenagers succumbed to injuries on Sunday while the other is undergoing treatment. Following this incident, restrictions on the movement have been imposed at the site from April 17 to May 2.

The collected soil samples have been sent for testing to state pollution control board laboratory in Mysuru and Bengaluru

The committee would present its report in four to five days but it has been observed that the fumes might have been emanated from the land due to dumping of industrial waste on the plot. The report would be submitted to Mysuru Deputy Commissioner and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

On April 13, two boys went to an empty open plot in Kumbara Koppal in Mysuru. As it was dark, the boys Harshal and Manoj didn't realize that they walked on a loose soil which was highly inflicted with chemical waste. The boys suffered burn injuries after flames emanated from the soil. Harshal got stuck but his friend Manoj escaped and called for help. The former succumbed to injuries and died on Sunday at a hospital.
