Indian Premier League 2019 is kick-starting a little earlier than usual . What do we know about the latest edition? Here are some details that we know about IPL 12, as of now. The 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is back this time on a bigger scale and sooner than expected.

IPL 2019 is all set to start early with 2019 being the election year. Keeping in mind the Lok Sabha elections, which are going to be held this year, the dates of the tournament have been advanced and about 20 locations across the country have been short-listed to the host the matches. This announcement also ended months of speculations over shifting the location of IPL 2019 tournament out of India in order to avoid the apparent clash with election dates. However many details are not clear about the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019.

1. IPL 12 edition to be played in India :

For the 12th edition of IPL 2019, India is the location, there is also a possibility of a clash with India's general elections, which are expected to be scheduled between April and May. IPL was held outside India for the first time in 2009 and the first half of the 2014 edition was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) because of the Lok Sabha elections in both the instances.

2. IPL 12th edition Players :

The players' list is also out, as this edition’s auction took place on December 18 in Jaipur. A big surprise of this season was architect-turned-cricketer Varun Chakravarthy, who was bought for an amount of Rs 8.4 crore, a phenomenal 40 times more than his base price. This is also the case another player Jaydev Unadkat. Shockingly veteran player Yuvraj Singh was bought in the end by Mumbai Indians for just Rs 2 crore.

3. IPL 12th edition begins on:

The 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is kick-starting on March 23, 2019.  IPL 2018 had begun on April 7 and the final was held on May 27 with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bagging the trophy.

4. IPL 12th edition Final date:

The date of the Finals is yet to be announced the organizers so far. With 2019 One Day International World Cup starting on  30 May and the new BCCI constitution making it clear that at a minimum of a 15-day window between the IPL and India's next international tournament, is essential, it is very likely that the final will be played on or around May 12, 2019.

5. IPL 12th edition Venues

A total of 20 venues across the country have been shortlisted to host the 12th edition of IPL. According to sources, venues like Pune, Lucknow, Kanpur, Thiruvananthapuram, Visakhapatnam, Ranchi, Cuttack, Rajkot, Guwahati, Raipur, Indore, and Dharamsala are going to host IPL games apart from regular cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mohali, Jaipur, and Hyderabad.

6. Home and Away or Caravan format:

Many reports are circulating that the 12th edition of IPL  will not be played in the traditional home and away format. A BCCI official confirmed that the IPL 2019 might be played in a 'caravan' format across many cities. The BCCI has come up with a plan involving multiple cities and flexible dates to ensure there is no clash with elections in any single city. The Union government has reportedly ratified the proposal and has given its nod to the final preparations.
