Schools, Colleges Bandh Called In Protest Against Teaching Pressure On Students

Hyderabad: Student organizations called for a bandh of schools and colleges in Telangana on Monday in protest against the growing menace of academic pressure on students for ranks. YSR Student Union organized a bandh in AP.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Students Federation of India (SFI) staged protest dharnas at several places in Hyderabad and closed the educational institutions. The student organizations leaders said corporate colleges are pressurizing students beyond their capacity to get ranks.

Student leaders demanded action against the managements of institutions where students committed suicides in the recent past. About a dozen students studying in intermediate committed suicide citing classroom pressure as the reason.

Three days back, Saiprajwala, a student of intermediate at Narayana College on city outskirts left home after leaving a note stating that teachers at the college pressurized her to score better marks. The girl is yet to be traced by police.

In Andhra Pradesh, YSR Students Union staged protests at Narayana colleges demanding removal of Narayana from the ministry for the suicides that are happening in the recent months. YSR Student Union leaders said the corporate colleges, especially Narayana junior colleges in the state, are exerting huge pressure on students to score marks and ranks only to project their colleges' image. The administration at Narayana colleges is adamant as their proprietor is a minister, they said and demanded his removal from the cabinet to curb the menace.
