Saudi Witnesses Record Breaking Rainfall

Saudi Arabia witnessed a record breaking rainfall as the desert witnessed havoc from February 14.

Meteorologists stated that the desert has witnessed more than three months worth of rain in less than 24 hours. Places with worst hit were under Asir region, around the southern cities of Abha and Khamis Mushayt.

Never before have we witnessed persistent rain for such a long period

People took to social media to voice their fear and coined the stormy weather as no less than a catastrophe. The deluge has brought life to a grinding halt which also claimed several lives.

One of the Twitter users from posted, “Never before have we witnessed persistent rain for such a long period.”

"When it rains in Saudi Arabia, the Great Flood happens,” posted another user.

Schools, offices - both public and private - have been closed and incidentally, the flooding also submerged oil fields. Country’s Civil Defense has been undertaking rescue operations.
