Samajwadi Party Leader Served Poison Laden Sweets At Wife’s Poll Victory Party 

Meerut: A Samajwadi Party leader's celebration of his wife's win in the Uttar Pradesh civic polls was short-lived when he ended up in the hospital after consuming sweets laden with poison.

Samajwadi Party leader Shahid Abbasi's wife Nazreen emerged victorious in civic polls from Rashid Nagar ward on Saturday. while her entire family was busy in celebrations, Abbasi was served sweets by one of the party supporters during a felicitation ceremony to mark the victory of Nazreen. Within no time, the SP leader had to be taken to the hospital after he complained of uneasiness.

The family is waiting for a medical report to lodge a complaint with the police. The relatives alleged that the sweets were served at the behest of rivals. Abbasi, who is a senior leader in the party, was in the news after he walked out of a board meeting of Meerut Municipal Corporation when the national song was played. He fielded his wife Nazreen from Rashid Nagar as the seat was reserved for woman candidates.
