Sakshi Ignites Nenu Shakthi This Women’s Day

Hyderabad: The Sakshi Media Group commemorating womanhood celebrated Women's Day at The Institution of Engineers, Khairatabad on Wednesday.

The auditorium at the venue echoed with Nenu Shakthi, a campaign undertaken by the Sakshi media house over the past one month addressing various issues and challenges faced by women. In this connection, four predominant issues, among others faced by women were covered extensively by the media group during this one month. Nenu Shakthi is the brainchild of Chalapathy, the lyrics penned by Madhusudhan, while the music was scored by Sivanadi, all belonging to Sakshi media house.

Guests:

1.The special attraction of the event was Amala Akkineni who spoke about the importance of education and empowerment, adding that the UN also strongly believes in the motto and has championed the cause of educating the girl child which helps her in getting employment. Amala, who, among other things, runs Annapurna International School of Film & Media, spoke of the need for formal education in cinema. She asserts that formal education helps in the exposure of future cinema and helps in redefining the portrayal of women.

2.Social activist Devi, who was also a part of the campaign commended Sakshi for making it a month-long campaign consistently unlike other media houses which only conduct one-day programmes.

3. Then there was legal adviser Nischala Reddy who stressed on the need for women to be financially independent. She also thanked Sakshi as it helped her in achieving progress in her career.

4. Social activist Shajeya came down heavily on movies for maintaining double standards."The irony in movies is that sexual harassment is part of it, but they refuse to see it and don't accept it.". She went on to say that March 8th as Women's Day came into existence due to women proletariat who went on strike against the irregularities and took a stand against them. She also called for the need to recognise the plight of women farmers.

5. The budding Telugu lyricist Shreshta opened up about her struggles in the film industry and how she overcame many challenges to find a toe-hold in the industry. Her advice to women was to break the silence and talk about it.

6. Dr Mani Pavitra is the founder of 'Million Moms', who has shed light on a million mothers need to take a break from their daily life to exercise and keep themselves healthy.

Apart from intellectual discussions, the women scribes and staffers had a good laugh over the fun induced by mimicry artistes RJ Surya and Raju. The programme concluded with a brief awards ceremony for best four short films which were shortlisted from numerous entries. The short films are Amma, Addillu, Chitti Thalli and LIving Idle.

The next awards titled 'Super Parents Award' were given to the parents who didn't see gender discrimination and saw their daughters equivalent to sons and provided them education helping them to stand on their own feet.
