Railway Employees Get 78 Days Bonus For Dasara

New Delhi: The Cabinet on Wednesday announced bonus equivalent to 78 days wage to eligible non-gazetted railway employees for the financial year 2016-17. It also specified that this does not include Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was calculated that about Rs2,245.45 crores bonus will be given to 12.30 lakh non-gazetted workers.
"According to wage calculation formula, it was calculated to be given for 72 days but for the past six years it has been a tradition of giving them the bonus for 78 days, so the Cabinet has approved a 78-day productivity linked bonus (PLB)for them," said finance minister Arun Jaitley.
The wage calculation ceiling prescribed for payment of PLB is Rs7,000 per month. The maximum amount of bonus will be paid to railway employees is Rs17,951 for 78 days.
