Pune Declares Vizag's YSR Stadium as Homeground for IPL Matches - Sakshi Post

With the BCCI officials visiting YSR Stadium at Vizag on Friday, speculations are rife that the IPL-2016 matches that were forced out of Maharashtra will now be played at this stadium.A team of officials examined the condition of the pitch and other technical requirements for the matches.

While cricket lovers in the state were elated by the news as they could enjoy watching the world class cricketers play at their stadium, the problem that made the Maharashtra High Court to ban IPL matches in the state is also equally hitting AP and especially Vishakapatnam.

Despite several offers made by the team owners in court to prevent the relocation of the games, only matches up to April 30 were allowed in Maharshtra saying it could not afford to ignore the plight of people affected by drought.

The Mumbai and Pune teams had offered a sum of Rs. 5 crore to the chief minister's relief fund, to help the farmers in distress.

The cricket associations in the state promised to supply 60 lakh treated sewage water, free of cost, to any region selected by the government.

If not all the matches originally decided for Maharashtra, all Rising Pune Supergiants matches are likely to come to the city as Pune team has now chosen Vizag's YSR Stadium as their home ground. Part of quarter finals and the finals are likely to go to Bengaluru.

An official decision will be announced in this regard in a couple of days, said an official.
