The YSR Congress party on Thursday decided to launch agitations across the state against the power tariff hikes and power cuts. 

Konatala Ramakrishna, YSRCP leader said dharnas would be organised in every assembly constituency on April 3 protesting against the power tariff hike and incessant power cuts. The party was organizing “Praja teerpu” (people’s verdict) from April 5. People's ballot would be conducted on two issues – current supply and power tariffs – in every major panchayat village, mandal and district taking the opinion of the people. The ballot would be continued till April 14, the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar. The party would announce people's verdict on the state government's failures. 

State bandh on April 9

Ramakrishna said a massive protest programme was proposed on April 9, the day when late YS Rajasekhar Reddy began his Praja Prasthanam in 2003 to dethrone the then Chandrababu Naidu government. The YSRCP felt that same conditions prevailed in the State now. The party would observe State bandh on April 9 protesting against the power crisis. He said handloom weavers and the farmers were committing suicides as they were unable to pay the current bills. He said the YSRCP would rededicate its commitment to YSR’s dream of people’s welfare. Stating that the leaders of Left parties met YS Vijayamma, Ramakrishna siad the Left party have extended their support for the agitations launched by YSRCP against power tariff hike and power cuts.
