Pigeon Caught While Smuggling Cellphone Into Prison

Columbia: A pigeon strapped with a mobile phone and a USB Drive was caught while it was carrying the device to a jailbird at Combita prison, one of the most secured jail for long-term inmates in North East Columbia.

The high-tech carrier pigeon was caught out side the prison by two prison guards when it flew to the prison with a mobile along with USB drive securely packed in a condom as a waterproof pack strapped on its back.

The guards removed the black harness strapped to the pigeon’s body using a pair of a nail cutter and then let it fly on to a nearby roof.

Though it was unclear who hatched the plot to smuggle the mobile to inmate by the pigeon, but the prison authorities have started the inivestigation for the inmate who was behind the plan and by seizing the devices for the probe.

The officials said such incidents were not the first time that prisoners using birds for help as carriers. Similar occurrences were also reported in 2009 and 2011, they said.
