Passive Smoker Diagnosed With Cancer

Bengaluru: It is not just the smokers who have threat to life, even passive smokers face similar threat. Though we have been hearing about this, here is a tragic tale to prove that it is true. A 70-year-old woman from Bengaluru was suffering with throat cancer thereby losing her vocal chords and leaving her speechless.
Cigarette smoke was stated to be the cause, but unfortunately it is not because of her smoking, she suffered the terrible disease due to her husband's addiction to smoking. In fact, her husband died due to cancer.
Four years after husband's death, one day, Nalini Satyanarayan found herself suffering from breathlessness and was not able to speak. Immediately, her children rushed her to a hospital in the city where she was informed that was suffering from throat cancer due to passive smoking. Subsequently, doctors performed an operation and removed her vocal chords and thyroid gland. The operation also left a hole in her neck.
The trauma did not let her down as she learnt using the computer and started speaking with voice prosthesis. She also learnt to play flute with the help of stoma.
