Kakinada (East Godavari): Gas leakage from the ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) pipeline triggered panic among the villagers of Kesavadaspalem of Malikipuram mandal, 126 kms away from the district headquarters on Monday.

The locals alerted the ONGC officials after some youth noticed gas leaking from the pipeline. The officials swung into action to plug the leakage. Following the incident, the villagers are in a constant fear of gas leak.

It may be recalled that 18 people were burnt alive and 28 were severely burnt when a massive fire broke out from gas pipeline of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) at Nagaram village in the district in 2014. The gas tragedy left a trail of destruction in the region leaving hundreds of birds dead and trees reduced to ashes.
