NGT Committees To Oversee Amaravati Construction
New Delhi: Delivering its final verdict in a petition on Amaravati construction, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday directed the Andhra Pradesh government to take all precautionary measures to prevent any kind of damage to the environmental balance in the capital region.
NGT was disposing a case filed by three residents of the capital region stating that over 10,000 acres of land with greenery and water beds will be damaged if the construction of capital city goes on as planned by the government.
The Tribunal will constitute two committees to oversee the construction of capital city. A monitoring committee would look into the plans before construction of any structures in the capital region and an implementation committee would review the ongoing construction activity on a monthly basis and check if any violations of environmental regulations took place. The reports would be submitted to NGT from time to time.
The Tribunal directed the AP government not to divert the direction of Kondaveeti vagu and not to make any changes to Karakattalu on the Krishna river.
