These Residents Cannot Pay Electricity Bill On Paytm, Check Why?

 - Sakshi Post

The Haryana Electricity Board recently issued a notification regarding Paytm payments which left the users in shock. The notification released by the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) stated that 22 districts of the State will not be able to pay the electricity bills through Paytm wallets from the last week of September.

The UHBVN further stated that the notification will also apply to the districts that come under Dakshin Haryana Bijili Vitran Nigam(DHBVN). The department has planned to take this decision after they wanted to terminate the contract with Paytm due to differences over charges asked by the company.

UHBVN Chairman PK Das said that Paytm is proposing a hike in processing charges that it levies towards electricity bill payments. After reviewing the proposal, we found it financially unviable which is why we decided to end the contract, added PK Das.

He further mentioned that the electricity departments are okay with resuming the contract if Paytm wishes to continue with the old processing charges.

The electricity department later instructed all the sub-divisional officers to spread awareness among consumers about the decision. They made it clear that they will not be responsible and no amount gets refunded if any money gets deducted from the users’ Paytm account after the contract end time.

With this move, Haryana officials decided to put up banners saying Paytm payments won’t be accepted at all cash counters to pay electricity bills and they are planning to make calls through their helplines to ensure there is no confusion about this issue among the residents.

The payment app soon after responded to this news and said, "Paytm continues to empower its residents with electricity bill payments online. Paytm users in Haryana can enjoy uninterrupted services as do residents across the country."

In light of recent reports and misunderstanding created about electricity bill payments through Paytm Wallet that has also led to misinformation through Whatsapp forwards, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam had issued a clarification on the same on September 13 stating that users will face no difficulty on payments through Paytm.

Paytm spokesperson said, “Paytm has a long-standing relationship with electricity boards across the country, including Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, through which we offer convenient and hassle-free payments to households.
