Bharat Biotech, SII Latest Targets Of Chinese Hackers

The Indian Pharmaceutical companies became the recent target of cyber security breach and hacking. The hackers or the hacking organizations that are based off in China have been posing a threat to security. Now it was reported that the Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech are the recent targets of it.

Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute are manufacturers of COVID19 vaccine and even received Emergency Use Approval for their vaccines in India. It was confirmed by Cyfirma, which is a cyber security threat discovery platform that the Pharmaceutical companies are now being targeted.

Along with Bharat Biotech and SII, there was also a campaign that targeted Patanjali. A North Korean campaign was believed to be targeting Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali and trying to get information.

The cyber threat discovery platform Cyfirma released a report called "Threat Landscape for Pharmaceutical Companies" in which they gave a list of companies that could be targeted for their research data on COVID19 vaccine.

There were organizations or hackers from places like China, North Korea and other Middle East Nations that were said to be targeting countries with vaccine data. This includes India where Bharat Biotech and SII vaccines have been approved. Hacker campaigns from the above nations are trying to hack and get hold of COVID vaccine data, production information, patients’ data and other important details.

It is not just India that is under the threat of a cyber security breach. The cyber attack campaigns are also targeting the UK, Germany, Mexico, US and other nations. Cyfirma’s report gave an insight on the number of hacking campaigns that are active right now. As per the report, a total of 15 campaigns are actively working as of now.

Cyfirma said that these hacking campaigns are trying to gain benefit out of this sensitive situation. These are the hackers that are trying to profit by gaining sensitive data including research information and trail data.
