In South Korea, webtoons are a type of digital comic or graphic novel. They are created especially for reading online through web-based or mobile applications. "Webtoon" is a portmanteau that combines "web" and "cartoon."

Since readers can simply scroll down to move through the story, webtoons are well known for their vertical scroll structure. This format makes webtoons easier to read on digital devices, notably on smartphones.

The fact that webtoons are active involvement and community-driven is one of their unique characteristics. Readers can frequently engage with creators, write comments, and even join fan communities on websites that host webcomics. 

Webcomics offer a variety of narrative forms, visual styles, and storytelling techniques. Numerous webcomics have become extremely successful and have been turned into a variety of media, including Korean dramas, films, and animations.

Webtoons, online comics, or graphic novels, offer a wealth of graphics and storytelling that may be adapted into engaging dramas. Webtoons that have been developed into Korean dramas include the following:

A webcomic turned drama titled "Cheese in the Trap" centers on the complicated relationship between a college student and her enigmatic senior. It explores topics like friendship, trust, and personal development.

The romantic comedy "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim" is based on a webcomic about a self-centered CEO and his competent assistant. As secrets from their pasts surface, the drama tracks how their friendship develops.

"True Beauty", a webtoon adaptation that projects the story of the main character of this well-known webtoon adaption is a high school student who utilizes makeup to conceal her actual appearance. It explores issues including young love, beauty ideals, and self-acceptance.

Based on a webtoon of the same name, "Itaewon Class" depicts a young guy who sets up a bar-restaurant in order to take revenge on an influential company. Themes including ambition, friendship, and social difficulties are all covered.

An adaptation of the horror-thriller webtoon “Sweet Home” shows a group of humans confined to an apartment block while battling terrifying animals. The play examines their struggle for survival as well as the human psyche in difficult situations.

The fantasy-action drama "The Uncanny Counter" is based on the webcomic "Amazing Rumour," which follows a team of talented demon hunters. They battle demonic spirits while disguising themselves as restaurant employees.

The drama "Business Proposal" is based on the related webtoon. It concerns a female who, pretending to be her friend, sets up a blind date with a CEO in an effort to scare him off. However, things go wrong when he reveals himself to be her CEO and makes a proposal. 

Webtoons are published on well-known platforms such as Naver Webtoon, KakaoPage, LINE Webtoon, and Lezhin Comics. These websites, which serve a global audience, provide a large number of webtoons from both expert and new creators. Webtoon adaptations are becoming increasingly popular, and every year, a large number of new ones are created and released.
