'Dhimahi' is directed by Saahas Pagadala and Naveen Kante. The mystery thriller is produced by Captain Cook Films' Virat Kapur and Saahas Pagadala. Starring Saahas and Nikitha Chopra in the lead, the high-concept film was released in theatres this Friday. How is the movie? What are its merits? What is its premise and what works for it? Let's find out.

Plot:

Mahi is a vision-impaired child who has a keen passion for music. Jaidev and Mythri, her loving parents, are traumatized when she goes missing. Mahi's doting uncle Karthik (Saahas) takes it upon himself to trace her and bring a smile to the faces of her parents. He delves into Necromancy, the practice of communicating with those no longer present.

Performances:

Saahas, who was recently seen in the sci-fi thriller '7: 11 PM', is effortless. His scenes with his co-stars are not overwhelmed by excessive heroism or physics-defying action. That's what makes this film and his performance all the more likeable. In today's times when movies compete with each other to show gore and bloodshed, 'Dhimahi' focuses on the expressions of its actors and its novel plot.

Virat Kapur, JD Cherukuru, Aashika Pagadala, Sreejith Gangadharan, Saujanya Kasina, and Vamsi Davuluri have played different roles.

Technical Departments:

The music by Sharon Raavi adorns the screenplay-oriented nature of the film like a restrained piece of ornament. The cinematography by Rah Sharma is measured. The religiosity shown in the initial stretches is commendably elevated by the sound design and even the editing. The art department doesn't disappoint.

Analysis:

The creators of 'Dhimahi' hit the bull's eye with an effective trailer. There is no pandering or anything forced as far as the content is concerned. The sentiment doesn't turn melodramatic.

The film gets the colour grading and the visual palette right. In terms of visual appeal, 'Dhimahi' is in the company of some of the medium-budgeted movies made by big Tollywood banners. Despite a few forgivable flaws, the film overcomes its drawbacks and comes into its own in the second half.

Plus Points:

The twists in the second half.
The mature handling of the romantic track between Karthik and Nidhi.
The supernatural premise.
Realistic action sequences that don't overdo grittiness.
The respectable handling of the resolution.

Minus Points:

The antagonist's character could have been better.
The exposition of the scientific concepts is not flawless.

Verdict: Dhimahi is a focused supernatural thriller with emotions and a crisp running time. The concept of Necromancy has been attempted for the first time in a Telugu film.

Rating:2.5/5
