BTS Butter is No.1 For 6th Week On Billboard Hot 100 Chart

 - Sakshi Post

It is another week for BTS and Butter at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This gives the song, sixth consecutive No.1 on the BB list. The band is making history once again as Butter is only the 9th song in history to debut at #1 and stay atop for 6 consecutive weeks.

Butter is the first song since Ed Sheeran’s Shape of you in 2017 to achieve more than 100,000 sales in each of its first 6 weeks of release.

The song was released on May 21 and has been charting since. The FESTA (June) month started with Butter’s debut at No.1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart earning the band their fourth peak. With this week added to Butter’s #1s, it now becomes 6 consecutive weeks for the song. BTS is the only band ever to achieve this feat. The act to hold the highest record is Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's with their 1995 song "One Sweet Day," at No. 1 on the Hot 100 for 16 consecutive weeks.

“Butter drew 11 million U.S. streams and sold 153,600 downloads, cassette and vinyl combined (up 20%) in the week ending July 1. It also attracted 28.3 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 2%) in the week ending July 4,” wrote Billboard on their Twitter handle.

It also gives the band their 11th overall No.1. Six weeks with Butter, 3 weeks with Dynamite, 1 week each with Life Goes on and Savage Love Remix. They are the only Asian act to ever do so. Butter is BTS’ fourth song to top the BB charts. Now if the band’s upcoming release, “Permission to Dance” also earns the No.1 spot on the Hot 100 chart, it will be the fifth song.

If Butter stays at No.1 position for one more week (total 7 weeks), it can later be replaced by Permission to Dance in the 8th week. This means BTS will become only the second boyband since The Beatles to replace their own song on BB Hot 100. ‘Pass the Baton’ as Suga said.

Excited over the announcement of Butter spending the sixth week on No.1, member Min Yoongi aka Suga thanked the ARMYs in his Weverse post. “6 weeks... are we really going to have baton touch with PTD..? Is this real life..? I'm not dreaming, am I..? Thank you so much,” wrote the rapper.

Get ready for the release of BTS’ new song “Permission to Dance” on July 9 at 1 pm KST (9.30 am IST).
