Eid-ul-Fitr 2022: After fasting and feasting throughout the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world will celebrate Eid-al-Fitr 2022. The first day of Shawaal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, is celebrated as Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid-al-Fitr. Following the first sighting of the crescent moon, Muslims celebrate the holiday with tremendous pomp and passion.

Eid-Al-Fitr Significance

The name Ramadan comes from the Arabic word ramida or ar-ramad, which means "scorching heat." It is one of Islam's five pillars, along with Shahada (faith), Salat (prayer), Zakat (almsgiving), Sawn (fasting), and Haji (worship) (Pilgrimage). Eid is on May 3 this year. The date, however, may change depending on when the crescent moon is visible. It's a government-sanctioned holiday.

The occasion marks the completion of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, which is celebrated by Muslims all around the world. Eid-al-Fitr signifies the "Festival of Breaking the Fast." People wear new clothes, make delicacies, donate to charity, and greet their family and friends with Eid Mubarak on this day.

The popular idea in Islam is that good deeds are returned tenfold, and the 30-day fasting season of Ramadan provides wealth, harmony, and peace to everyone who commits themselves to the sacred cause.

History of Eid-al-Fitr:

During the holy month of Ramazan, Prophet Muhammad is said to have had his first vision of the Holy Quran. It commemorates the conclusion of the dawn-to-dusk fasting period and the start of the Shawwal month. The month-long fasting rituals, it is performed to give gratitude to Allah for providing strength and courage.
