 - Sakshi Post

Ekadashi 2021: Telugu people's first festival is Ekadashi. After this festival, there are other festivals. In the Hindu calendar, the first Ekadashi has special significance.

Ekadashi 2021: Many people believe that Vinayaka Chaviti marks the beginning of the Telugu festivals. However, the first Ekadashi is the first festival of the year in the Hindu calendar. The festivals of Vinayaka Chaviti, Dussehra, Diwali, and Sankranti follow. The first Ekadashi is particularly noteworthy. It's also known as the Popcorn Festival, Hari Vasaram, or Shayanaikadashi.

Here's some info on how to celebrate the first Ekadashi of the year today (Tuesday, July 20), on the occasion of the first Ekadashi. Throughout the year, there are 24 Ekadashis. Ashadha Shuddha Ekadashi is the first Ekadashi among them. Lord Vishnu, according to legend, sleeps for four months on the ocean of milk.

These 4 months are called quarters. Some people go through a four-month initiation during this time. According to legend, Lord Vishnu spends these four months in the underworld with Emperor Bali, returning on Karthika's full moon day.

Rules:

Early in the year, Dakshinayanam starts. Festivals are more religious and ritualistic in the south than they are in the north. Climate change is on the rise at the moment. As a result, health should be prioritised during this time. As a result, some guidelines must be followed. The elderly perform vratas and pujas during this time. Fasting on the first Ekadashi is thought to be beneficial for one's health.

Legend:

In the Krutha yuga, there was a monster named Murasuru. He would torment all the gods and goddesses, having been blessed by Brahma. For thousands of years, Lord Vishnu fought that demon. When he was finally tired and resting in a cave, a virgin girl was born from Srihari's body (Lord Vishnu) to kill the monster.

When Lord Vishnu told the girl that she could wish for what she wanted, she requested that she be worshipped on earth as Vishnupriya. Vishnu bestowed the blessing on her. The day is known as Ekadashi Tithi as a result of this. Gods and devotees are said to earn the grace of Vishnu by performing the 'Ekadashi' vrata. The Ekadashi Vrata is said to have been performed by legendary men such as Ambarishu, Mandhata, and others.

Things to do:

On Ekadashi, some people may fast. It is necessary to remain awake throughout the night. It is necessary to recite the Vishnu Sahasranamam. It is a virtue to serve Lord Vishnu in this manner. A day after Dwadashi, on that day, the fast initiation should be broken at a nearby temple. According to Vedic scholars, today is a great time to worship cows.

Popped cornflour or puffed rice:

The ancestral gods prefer popped corn or cornflour (Jonna Pindi) or puffed rice or rice flour. On the first Ekadashi, adults must eat it. On the day of the festival, we must remember our forefathers and mothers who gave birth to us. We are at risk of a variety of diseases as a result of climate change. Infections are bound to strike, especially now that the rainy season has begun.

These foods raise the body's temperature during this season. As a result of the increased protein levels, infections are less likely to spread. This is why these are now distributed as an offering in homes and temples. These are the general practices to be followed along with fasting on Tholi Ekadashi. It is difficult for sick people to strictly adhere to this custom. Vedic Scholars say that such people need not risk it.
