Cyclone Jawad Weakens, Huge Relief For North Andhra

The cyclonic storm Jawad has weakened into a deep depression and is likely to weaken further into a depression around Sunday noon, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.

IMD in a statement said, "JAWAD weakened into a Deep Depression  at 1730 hrs IST of today, lay about 180 km east-southeast of Vishakhapatnam, 260 km south of Gopalpur, 330 km south-southwest of Puri  and 420 km south-southwest of Paradip."

The weather system is likely to move north-northeastwards and weaken further into a depression by Sunday morning and make landfall near Puri on Sunday afternoon. This is going to be a sigh of relief for Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal.

In Andhra Pradesh, the highest rainfall under the influence of the storm was 23.5 mm at Palasa in Srikakulam district followed by 22.5 mm at Pydibheemavaram in Ranasthalam Mandal. Vizag’s Bheemili received 12mm of rainfall.
