Saalumarada Thimmakka Death News Is Fake

Karnataka's Environmental activist Saalumarada Thimmakka who was chosen as one of the most inspirational and influential women by BBC in the year 2016 became a victim of a death hoax.

In the last 24 hours, a picture showing the dead body of a woman is being passed on as that of Saalumarada Thimmakka saying she had died. However, in a latest development her son Umesh vanasiri has issued a clarification saying she was very much alive and kicking and that Saalumarada Thimmakka's death news was fake. The news has travelled like wildfire and being widely circulated in social media circles.

Umesh vanasiri said in a video message that his mom was fine. "Some miscreants have spread the fake news of her death. I wonder what pleasure they get from doing this. Saalumarada Thimmakka is fit and fine. Her well-wishers should get panicked about those rumours She has slept now after having dinner," he said.

He learnt about Saalumarada Thimmakka's death hoax after receiving several calls from her followers enquiring him about her health. The government has been apprised of the prank and an investigation is on to find the culprit who spread news of Saalumarada Thimmakka's death hoax.

Saalumarada Thimmakka who hails from Karnataka is a well known green activist known for her afforestation measure. She has planted about 400 banyan trees on the road between Kudur and Hulikar. She is 105 years old.

This is not the first time that there has been a death hoax, celebrities often become victims of such news. Amitabh Bachchan, Kannada actress Jayanthi and most recently TN Seshan have also faced this.
