National Herald Case Still Haunts Cong Bosses; HC Okays I-T Investigation

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi - Sakshi Post

New Delhi: Congress top brass — party President Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi will be probed in the National Herald case, the Delhi Court said on Friday.

Earlier, the Patiala House court had allowed the investigation, however, it was challenged in Delhi High Court.

After the firm owned, Young Indian Private Ltd, by the Congress bosses, withdrew its petition, the Judge asked the company to approach the Income Tax assessing officer.

National Herald newspaper which was established by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and other freedom fighters in 1938, was granted an interest free loan of Rs 90.25 crore during the Congress rule.

Economist and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy filed a petition in 2012 in the Delhi court alleging that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi had committed several frauds including land grabbing. Swamy further alleged that the newspaper owned by them had not repaid the loan taken from the government.
