Murder Accused’s Father Alleges Police Demanded Money To Spare Him
Hyderabad: Driver Nagaraju murder accused Sukrut Venkat's father, IAS officer D. Venkateshwar Rao on Wednesday levelled allegations that the Jubilee Hills police demanded Rs2 crore to spare him in the case. As he could not pay money, they falsely incriminated him in the case, Venkateshwar Rao told media from a hospital where he was undergoing treatment after he collapsed at the police station before the arrest.
The police have arrested Venkat Sukrut for the murder of Bhukya Nagaraju (40) whose body was found at Sai Kalyan Residency Apartments at Yousufguda on March 17. Nagaraju and Sukrut had gone to the penthouse and after a brawl over homosex between them, the latter hit the driver with a brick. The youth left the place but returned to take his bike keys and found the driver dead. Then he called up is father who, according to police, suggested him to bring the body down so that they can dispose it off somewhere. However, the residents of the apartment noticed something fishy when he was bringing the body out of the apartment and he fled.
The body of Nagaraju was found in a gunny bag in the apartment. The police examined the CCTV footage at the apartment building and zeroed in on Sukrut who later confessed to killing the driver. The father of the accused was also booked for helping him in his effort to dispose off the body of the deceased.
The IAS officer said he was asked to come to the police station after his son was taken for questioning. They asked him to wait for some time and then detained him in a room for two days without giving food or even water. "They treated me like a criminal and they demanded Rs2 crore to spare me in the case," he said.
"I did not have a clue of what my son did and I am a sincere officer working for the welfare of poor farmers for so many years. How can I encourage my son to aggravate his already spoiled situation? They incriminated me only as I could not pay them money. I could sense from the situation at the police station that the city Police Commissioner P. Mahender Reddy is the kingpin in the largescale corruption in the department," he said and demanded a detailed inquiry into the whole incident by examining the call data of his mobile phone on which he received calls demanding money.
