MIM To Contest 40 Seats In Karnataka Elections

Bengaluru: As part of expanding the party's footprint in other states, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has decided to contest in 40 seats in the upcoming Karnataka elections. To firm up the plans to contest in Karnataka elections, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi held a meeting with party leaders and workers here today.

Whether the AIMIM will contest the elections in alliance with JDS or fight alone is not yet clear. On the other hand, the JDS seems to be keen on forging an alliance with AIMIM. The JDS has already tied-up with BSP and with these tie-ups, the party aims at capturing the vote banks of Dalits and Muslims while it contends that it has already got the Vokkaliga community in its kitty.

This new alliance might have a direct impact on Congress party in Karnataka since their voter base is the same. Meanwhile, chief minister Siddharamaiah is trying to woo the JDS vote bank to the Congress fold. On the whole, the Karnataka politics have heated up and with AIMIM joining the race, a new twist has been added to the election plot in the southern state.
