Millions Throng Krishna Pushkarams, Footfall To Cross 2 Crore In AP

Vijayawada: As many as 1.55 crore pilgrims thronged various ghats to take the holy dip in the Krishna Pushkarams as of Sunday. A surge in footfalls is expected as Pushkarams will end on Tuesday. The cumulative footfalls could cross two crore mark by the end of the event.

There was a heavy influx at popular ghats like Padmavati, Krishnaveni and Durga and even the soaring temperature didn’t stopped pilgrims from taking a holy dip and as a crowd regulating mechanism many trains were stopped at the outer part of the railway station

“On Sunday the day’s footfall crossed 32 lakh and by the evening the cumulative number reached to 1.55 crore,” said Palle Raghunatha Reddy, IT and Information and Public Relations Minister.

Reddy further said that pilgrims swarmed in numbers to ghats across various state, adding nearly 12.5 lakh pilgrim took the holy dip in Vijayawada while 3.5 lakh in other parts of Krishna district. Meanwhile, 13 lakh took holy dip in Guntur and approximately 3 lakh in Kurnool.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said, “There has been a drastic increase in the footfalls and the numbers are expected to go up on the last two days of the festival.”
