Miffed With Katappa, Kannadigas Threaten To Stop Baahubali 2 Release

Hyderabad: In a fresh controversy that broke out on SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali: The Conclusion following the remarks made my Sathyaraj, the film's release in Kannada is facing uncertainty. Some fringe Kannada groups have threatened to stall the movie's release in Karnataka in view of Katappa's controversial remarks on sharing of Cauvery river water.

The pro-Kannada groups are miffed with the senior Tamil actor Sathyaraj, who donned as Katappa in the film, for his anti-Karnataka remarks made by the actor during the Cauvery water dispute. The activists said that the actor has used inflammatory language against Karnataka people.

Kannada Rakshana Vedike members staged protest on Thursday in front of Karnataka Film Chamber in Bengaluru. Film Chamber President Sara Govindaraju too joined in their protest and shouted slogans against Sathyaraj.

“Sathyaraj supported Tamil Nadu during the Cauvery issue and made anti-remarks against Karnataka and our people. He has hurt our sentiments, so the movie will not be screened unless the actor apologizes," said Praveen Shetty, Kannada Rakshana Vedike chief.

Meanwhile, another group in Karnataka is protesting to get the movie dubbed in Kannada. The Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce has approached the Baahubali filmmaker and team to release the film in Kannada.
