Man With Arms and Ammunition Held on Republic Day Eve 

Malda (WB): A 35-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday with arms and ammunition in a special raid carried out in view of beefed-up security on Republic Day eve from Sripur village here.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Safirul Sheikh from Sripur under Kaliachak police station area.

Four improvised pipe guns, four cartridges, 1.7 mm pistol and six cartridges were seized from his possession," Malda Superintendent of Police Arnab Ghosh said.

"He was carrying the arms and ammunition in a plastic bag," he said.

Police is interrogating him, the SP added.
