Mahaparivartan: Most Wanted Thief Turns Samaritan, Wishes To Join SHE Team On Release

Hyderabad: Once a notorious burglar, Chenchu Lakshmi, who was thought as past redemption has transformed herself in Chanchalguda women’s prison and dreams of joining SHE Teams upon her release.

The 33-year-old also known as Gaddam Lakshmi Godavari alias Gundla Pochi is a notorious burglar who was involved in over 150 theft cases. Talking about her transformation, a senior official said, "A change in her attitude came during the ‘Maha Parivarthan’ held in Chanchalguda women’s prison. She wants to join ‘SHE Teams’ to protect women."

"She is a tough woman and has the strength to control 10 men. We want SHE Teams to give her a chance," said L. Raja Venkat Reddy, West Zone Task Force inspector.

Superintendent of Chanchalguda Women’s Prison Basheera Begum said that many women prisoners after their release are working either in old age homes or at child centers. Interestingly, those who got graduation certificates during their conviction period are teaching at primary schools.
