The first session of the Telangana state legislative assembly began here on Monday.

The newly-elected legislators took oath on the first day. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao was the first to take oath followed by ministers. KCr entered the Assembly after 10 years.

Earlier, senior Congress legislator K. Jana Reddy was sworn in as the pro term speaker by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan. 

The speaker will be elected on Tuesday while the governor will address the joint session of both houses the next day. The session will continue till June 13.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) bagged 63 seats in the 119-member assembly in the recent elections.

Telangana came into existence as the 29th state on June 2 and the same day Chandrasekhara Rao took oath as the first chief minister.

Andhra court issues summons to KCR

The First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court of Machilipatnam on Monday took cognizance of the complaint filed by Brahmin Yuvajana Sangham against Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao in connection with derogatory comments against Brahmins hailing from Andhra region, and issued summons to appear before it on July 21. 

In the complaint, it was mentioned that KCR said that Seemandhra Brahmins were more interested in public display and rituals.

The petitioner also mentioned that his comments have hurt the feelings of lakhs of Brahmins in Andhra region.
