Karthika Maasam Turns Tragic For Pregnant Woman, 5 Others During Holy Dip
Guntur: The final day of Karthika Maasam turned tragic for two women and a man who were swept away by the swirling waters of Ramapuram beach in Guntur district on Sunday.
According to the police, the victims belonged to Hanumanpet in Guntur town. The family, which runs an automobile outlet in the town, set off for Ramapuram beach to offer rituals on the occasion of Karthika Maasam.
Jyothi(22), a pregnant woman, along with Parvathi (32) ventured into the sea to take a dip. As they waded into the water, they were drawn in by the strong currents. They raised an alarm for help. Two victims named Yogi and Moulali, working as mechanics at a shed nearby, rushed to their rescue. Unfortunately, the duo was pulled in by the waves too. Jyothi and Yogi lost their lives while Parvathi's unconscious body was fished out and was rushed to hospital. The fate of Moulali is yet to be known.
In a separate incident, two women from the same family drowned when they came to offer prayers at Buckingham canal at Tadepalli in Guntur district. A polytechnic student also drowned in Hamsaladeevi beach near Machilipatnam.
