Judge Hangs Himself In Tirupati After Suspension

Tirupati: An Additional Senior Civil Judge committed suicide by hanging himself at his house here in the city on Wednesday. P.V. Sadananda Murthy, who was working at Tirupati Additional Sub-Court, was suspended by the High Court on charges of misusing his powers. He was later transferred to a reserve vacancy. As a result of his suspension, Murty lapsed into depression, said the police.

On Wednesday morning, Murthy went for his shower and after repeated calls yielded no response, his wife Annapurna with the help of their neighbours, broke open the bathroom door. They discovered that Murty had hanged himself from the ceiling fan.

A native of Machilipatnam in Krishna district, Murthy was staying in Vidya Nagar in Tirupati with his wife and mother. It may be recalled that a temple priest of Tirumala had lodged a complaint with the police after he was abused by Murthy during darshan.

Following a report submitted by Chittoor District Judge and Tirupati 3rd Additional District Judge, the High Court had issued a suspension order to Murthy on March 6, 2016. Subsequently, he had to vacate the quarters and had been staying in Vidya Nagar.
