Kanhaiya Kumar, leader of the All India Student Federation (AISF), the student wing of the Communist Party of India (CPI) who was arrested on sedition charges after the infamous Afzal Guru row in JNU was released on bail on Thursday. 

He however has become an overnight hero for the students across the country post his ‘Azaadi’ speech in the JNU that he delivered shortly after being let out of jail. Political leaders from across the country praised him and applauded the spirit of his speech.
However amidst all the political mileage and the controversies, his parents say Kanhiaya is just a simple boy with big dreams.
His family, who are currently beaming with pride over his vigor and boldness recall fond memories of him from his growing up years during various interviews.
According to his mother Meena Devi who works as an Anganwadi worker in Bihar, says Kanhaiya is gifted in terms of oratory skills and said he is extremely talented ad doesn’t even need to prepare his speech before delivering it.
Menna remembered Kanhaiya as a normal schoolboy who would scuffle with his siblings and pester his parents for good cloths. She added that he now however is really sensible and doesn’t trouble his parents with any such demands.
During media conversations, other family members of Kanahaiya revealed his cricket and cooking talent. According to his brother Prince who is currently preparing for the civil services exam, said his brother is not so good on the cricket pitch and rated him as an average batsman. Prince also spoke about Kanhaiya being a bad cook. The two brothers shared a room when in Ptna when they were studying and Kanahiaya cooked sometimes for them.
The 29-year-old who is doing his PhD in JNU geography from the College of Commerce, Patna and an MA in in sociology from the Nalanda Open University, Patna.
He was arrested on 12, February 2016 on charges of shouting anti-national slogans an during an event organised by some students at the Jawaharlal Nehru university campus against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
Kanhaiya who confessed he will write his own story to let people know what happened and what didn’t has already become a star despite being ridiculed by the ruling government. He is however being touted as the next big thing in Indian politics. If anything, the entire JNU controversy gave birth to a young leader.
