Hyderabadi Muslim Woman Married To Pakistani Tortured, Called A Hindu

New Delhi: Close on the heels of a series of Indian women being tortured in Saudi Arabia, yet another incident of a Hyderabad woman being harassed by her husband in Pakistan. The woman identified as Mohammadi Begum said that her husband concealed his identity at the time of marriage claiming that he is from Oman.

Begum got married to Muhammad Younis in 1996 and then joined him in Muscat. She later came to know that he is a Pakistani hailing from Lahore. The couple had five children and Younis along with his parents had been torturing her saying that she is an Indian who is a "Hindu". The 60-year-old injected the same notion to their children asking them to stay away from their mother as she is a Hindu.

Begum narrated her ordeal to her father Mohammad Akbar asking him to help her to get out of the shackles of her husband. Begum's mother Hajara Begum said, "If the children come with her that will be good but my appeal is that she should be brought home immediately."

Akbar, a cycle mechanic, in January sent an email to Sushma seeking her help in bringing back his daughter and it was on March 16 that Sushma had sought a report from India High Commissioner Gautam Bambawale. Akbar also posted a YouTube message of her daughter being ill-treated by her in-laws. Meanwhile, Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader Amjedullah Khan also tweeted to Sushma requesting her help in bringing back the woman to Hyderabad safely.
